That girl is Posen

Is Zac Posen broke? Or does he have a gambling addiction? A few months ago I found out he was starting Bespoke at Saks and today he is having a Posen party in Manhattan to sell his Target Go International summer line.

Price points: a black tuxedo jacket ($49.99) and pants ($34.99), a brocade tie dress ($74.99) and a gown ($69.99). The whole collection’s going to be available online and in-stores April 25.

So…I notice a trend of designers going mass - Stella McCartney for Adidas and Gap, Jimmy Choo for H&M, Zac Posen for Saks and Target, Rodarte for Target (I mean, seriously we need a Target in Canada!). Is this a good or bad thing? Do you like your designers to be unreachable, to be admired from afar? Or do you like being able to purchase a polyester option, as long as its branded with your couture crush?

I’m on the fence - I feel like the “go after everyone” targeting strategy can dilute the name and create negative brand associations (ie: Armani Exchange anyone?). But at the same time, I like the Obamaness to it. A fashion democracy if you will. And you can’t hide behind the brand to front as though you gots style when everyone can buy Rodarte. So the stylish games become more competitive, more fair - less about cash money, more about the fashionable hunny.
